”The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recognizes that same sex marriage can be an emotional and divisive issue. However, the church teaches that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is the basic unit of society.”

Forget these churches.

They did not express disappointment when their members were buying slaves, abusing them and killing them.

They did not express disappointment when other children of God were being asked to sit at the back of the bus.

They did not express disappointment when women were not allowed to vote.

These churches are not leaders. They are followers. With time, they will see once again that heaven will not fall.

What’s this whole stand on procreation and stuff? Why do churches believe that the marriages have only one purpose: reproduction? The institution of marriage has evolved and it is about time churches recognizes it.

If people want to be gay let them be.

Churches have got enough problems of their own than worrying about same sex marriages.

Rudolph, that is among the most ridiculous comments I have ever read. The LDS Church were adamant abolitionists during the slavery period.

Additionally, why are you so offended by Churches being disappointed in the ruling? Of course they are going to be, there is no surprise there. Aren’t churches there to establish moral guidelines to which people can choose or not choose to subscribe. What is the point of a Church if they don’t expect some level of moral standards? You may not agree with them, but that doesn’t mean they lack leadership.

Additionally, anyone who has done even a minute amount of research into the LDS’s stance on homosexuality would know that they don’t condemn the act, not the actor. People are only ”disciplined” in the church for actions they perform. Such discipline against an individual who committed in gay acts is no different than for individuals who had sex outside of marriage.

Finally, anyone who has read the bible, the book upon which so many religions are built, is clearly adament against gay relations and, ultimately, any sexual relations outside of marriage. Whether you think it is right or not is a different story, but at least they are being consistent with their beliefs of what is right and wrong. Just because the world consistently changes its moral standard doesn’t mean Churches should as well, especially any Church that claims to be directed by God.

The church needs to mind their own followers. Church and state separated long time ago so its not against the law to be a homosexual.

Its not anyone’s business to decide for others who to love, date, marry, etc...
